Notes On Becoming a Pro DJ and Electronic Music Producer (2019 Year in Review)

This is the second entry in a new series of articles to document the history of my career transition from somewhat notable software techie to electronic music producer and touring DJ. This entry is super late — I wrote most of it in December, so it reads like an annual retrospective, but have not had time to finish it until now in February. Nonetheless, I promise to try to publish new content in this series at least every six to twelve months, for the fans and other DJ/Producers trying to make it, and also as a way of keeping track of where my head’s at for posterity.

If you happen to be an aspiring electronic musician dreaming of making it big as a touring DJ, you should get at least some nuggets of wisdom from the series, that’s my hope anyway!

Overall? Life changes and big wins, but doubts aplenty

Last year (2019) was full of big wins on the music front but also significant life changes on the personal front as I fully embraced life as a digital nomad. After saying goodbye to Mexico City in June, I spent over 3 months bouncing around Europe and Bali, and then ended the year in China. Happy events included playing at major festivals…
