A well placed blog comment can still move the needle

While it’s true that user comments on the internet are blazing dumpster fires, every once in awhile they present compelling little marketing opportunities for the savvy SaaS operator.

Case in point, recently the following email popped into my inbox:

Now if there’s one thing in this world that I’m sure of, it’s that a new Derek Sivers post is gonna get a lot of attention from his extremely loyal following. As quickly as possible, I followed the link, made sure that my intention was relevant to his topic, and posted the following comment. (It scored the third spot in a trail that as of today numbers 169 responses.)

Yes, a relevant and timely comment containing a link to my little passive income project AhhLife. As hoped for, my daily user signup graph shot up about 10x its normal deviation, and I even picked up a new paying subscriber.

So consider this a reminder that it’s worth being on the lookout for popular people making blog posts related to your product.
