A simpler life than usual

One of the benefits of being a digital nomad is the freedom to create realities far removed from the usual experiences. This summer I’m loving life at Canestrello, Michael and Martina’s vegan hobby farm on top of a hill overlooking crisp verdant valleys in Umbria.

Life on a farm, not just being here “on vacation” but actually living and incorporating myself into Michael and Martina’s little family, has taught me that there is peace and serenity in routine chores. I dove into activities that a former self would have considered boring once their novelty had worn off.

As I write this, a large fly is buzzing and smacking into my head as it stupidly tries to figure out how to get back outside. It gives me pause to consider that throughout my life I would not only take offense at flies, but be eager to bring about their demise with a whip of a damp rag or fly swatter. However, during my stay here I have learned to mostly ignore flies and the myriad other insects that share our living space. Like right now I’m getting up and stepping away from the keyboard, and opening the window to let the big buzzy fly back outside where it belongs. Goodbye, fly.
